From G to g

There was a bit of a hubbub recently when people started noticing a new favicon for Google. The uppercase G had been replaced with a lowercase g. As is the case with the Internet, this touched off a flurry of speculation, rumors, and innuendo.

Now comes the official word from Google regarding the change. Turns out it was the start of an effort to present a more unified icon presence. So much for the rumors.
