Getting married in the morning

Watching the news yesterday, I couldn’t help but get a little emotional. Watching the video from around California showing same-sex couples getting married was something I really never thought I’d see.

Sure, when Gavin Newsom started marrying same-sex couples in San Francisco a few years ago, it was an important milestone. Given that Newsom was standing on his own and had no official support from the state or the courts, it was only a matter of time before the marriages were halted and, eventually, overturned.

This time, however, it’s different. This time, the California Supreme Court has said that denying same-sex couples the right to marry is unconstitutional. This time, even though there are protestors, there is a sense of validation that was lacking the first time.

And, hopefully, this time, the people of California will see that it’s about something as simple and powerful as love.
