As overjoyed as I am that the Democratic Party has control of the U.S. government - and I am overjoyed - I can’t help but be concerned by the fact that Senate Democrats are letting Joe Lieberman keep his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee.
Sure, removing him would have been a public relations nightmare, and probably would have led to him defecting to the GOP. And even though the Democrats control the Senate with a solid majority, they don’t have a filibuster proof 60 votes yet.
Part of me, however, just wants to see Lieberman taken down a notch. Not only did he campaign against Obama during the election, but he’s been out of touch with the mainstream Democratic party for a while now. In some ways, he’s more trouble than he’s worth.
